ITV’s My Mum, Your Dad’s Paul breaks silence on split from star as he returns to show

Paul was a hit with fans on the first series of the ITV dating show.

On the latest episode of This Morning, presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley were joined by Paul, from the first series of My Mum, Your Dad, and his daughter Mazey. Paul became a fan favourite on the ITV show last year when he struck up a romantic relationship with fellow contestant Natalie.

Despite initial sparks, their relationship didn’t last and Paul is set to return to the show. Reflecting on his time with Natalie, Paul said: “In the house, it’s like a holiday. You don’t have a real life. So when we dated, we had a good few months, but unfortunately we weren’t compatible. We did have a good few months together though.”

Cat asked Paul about his reasons for returning to the dating series. He revealed that he is open to possibilities and added that he doesn’t want to close the door on any opportunity because you never know what will happen, Mirror reports.

When asked about her reaction to being invited back on the show, Mazey said, “I was 100% sure.” Mazey also shared that her father was quite reserved during the first few weeks of the first season and only started to show his true self later on.

He expressed his excitement at the prospect of returning, particularly for the workshops, adding: “The workshops were amazing as well so I thought it would be nice to come back.” Paul spoke about his return to the show, revealing a newfound confidence: “I went there and I was completely myself this time.

“It was almost like walking into my house, putting on my slippers, taking out my cigarette, I felt very comfortable. Whereas in the first season, I walked in and didn’t know what to expect and I just locked myself in. I watched the cameras and it was very overwhelming.”

During the conversation, Ben asked Paul if his previous experience had allowed him to mentor the newcomers this year. Paul acknowledged the trust placed in him by his fellow contestants, saying: “My shoulder was there for them. I thought last year I felt exactly the same way, just give it a few days and relax, and it will be a lot easier. Because of that, I also struck up a friendship with them a lot quicker.”

Although his romance with Natalie didn’t last long, Paul hinted that he was starting to develop an interest in another contestant in the house, Steph. On his relationship with her, Paul commented: “She’s a very interesting woman, when she’s in a room she takes over it and I think everyone appreciates that, she’s a very nice woman.”
