The Letcher County Courthouse is closed to the public.

Several people are in a state of shock as a result of the incident.

A woman who did not want to reveal her identity said the community is devastated.

“It has devastated our entire community. They are both important figures in the area and are part of people’s daily lives. Knowing that they are not here, that they are not present, is horrible,” she said.

Another man who said he had been cutting Mullins’ hair for a decade added that he couldn’t believe what happened to the judge.
